It closed on June 24, 2006, for a yearlong renovation of the Ashmont–Mattapan High Speed Line. Valley Road reopened on December 22, 2007, along with the rest of the line. It is currently the only station on the Mattapan-Ashmont High Speed Line
that is not handicapped accessible, due to station's only exit location up a set of stairs.
