Vic Volcano
Encyclopedia
Vic Volcano was a short lived fictional comic character in The Beano
. The comic strip was about a boy with a literally fiery temper. He was a character that was easily offended and easy to make angry. Whenever he had such a temper, smoke would come out of his ears and fire would come out of his mouth.
This would result in a variety of outcomes. One example is where his boss tries to dock his wages for delivering papers a little bit late and says he would never cheat him again after his papershop was wrecked by Vic's temper.
In another strip he was bet £10 not to lose his temper during one strip and he was able to do this, until he was paid with Monopoly
money. One other example was when he was in a diving competition and his coach insulted him as he was about to dive, which resulted in him doing a very furious and spectacular dive, which in turn helped him to win the competition.
Vic Volcano had first appeared in a vote in 1995. In his introductory episode, he was told by Dennis the Menace
that he had to be good at something in order to be in the Beano. He found this out by being pelted by tomatoes by The Bash Street Kids
and being sent spinning by Billy Whizz
. Vic got so angry that he almost exploded. That was when he became Vic Volcano. This strip was drawn by Robert Nixon
. The other contestants, Chip the Stone Age Boy, the Sort out squad and Minder Bird lost to Vic Volcano. After that, he became a regular character in the comic. Various subsequent strips were drawn by Trevor Metcalfe
. In total, he made 32 appearances over 1995-1996. His final appearance in the comic came in issue no 2836, dated 23 November 1996.
