best known for being the 28th Governor
of Nebraska. He was born in what is now a part of Lincoln, Nebraska
but at the time was called Havelock, Nebraska. He opened a hardware business and then ran and won a seat in the Nebraska unicameral in 1949. He became mayor of Lincoln from 1950 to 1953, then became governor of Nebraska from 1955 to 1959. He was a delegate to the 1960 Republican National Convention
, two years before his death in 1962. He belonged to the Freemasons, the Elks
