. She was the eldest daughter and second child of Princess Abigail Kapiolani Kawānanakoa
during her marriage with Andrew Anderson Lambert (March 25, 1900–March 15, 1966).
She had an older brother, Edward A. Kawānanakoa (1924–1997) and a younger sister, Esther Kapiolani Kawānanakoa
(born 1928). She was a namesake of her great-great aunt Princess Virginia Kapooloku Poomaikelani and her aunt's grandmother the High Chiefess Poomaikalani, daughter of High Chief Kanekoa, Alii of Waimea, son High Chief Ke'eaumoku-nui, son of Keawe-i-Kekahiali'i-o-kamoku II and his Kailakanoa; by his wife Kalanikauleleiawi, daughter of Alii Kepoomahoe, by his wife, Alii Kekaulike-i-Kawekiuonalini, daughter of Keawe-i-Kekahiali'i-o-kamoku II, 21st Alii Aimoku of Hawaii. Upon her mother's death on April 8, 1961, her elder brother Edward A. Kawānanakoa became the most senior native Hawaiian and was considered by some to be heir to the throne of the Kingdom.
She was a publisher and theatrical entrepreneur. She served as President of the Hawaiian Civic Club. Princess Poomaikelani died unmarried and childless at Honolulu on November 19, 1998. She died ten days before her 72nd birthday.
