Current boundaries

All Virginia Senate districts were redrawn in 2011 and the 2011 elections were contested in the these districts. The 3rd District includes all of the City of Poquoson, parts of the cities of Hampton, and Suffolk, all of the counties of Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, and New Kent and parts of Isle of Wight, James City County, Surry and York. Fully 25% of the district's population is located in James City County.
