Virtual stock exchanges can be found all across the world wide web. Some specialize in providing the most realistic trading environment possible and others provide more as a game environment. Typically, both types of exchanges allow you to compete, compare, and discuss with other virtual stock traders.

The most realistic virtual stock exchanges are typically offered by online stock brokers and can usually be accessed for free. For stock traders testing new strategies or first time traders, this is a more common place to use. These virtual exchanges will use real time stock data, real time trading hours, and allow you to trade almost any stocks that could be traded with real money. Some of them will offer extras such as options trading, coaching, and prizes.

For people who are more interested in the entertainment aspect of stock trading, there are virtual stock exchanges that offer a game play environment. They are typically free and offer a community where you discuss stock trading or just chat with others. The games may have set rules and limit what and when stocks can be traded regardless of normal stock trading hours.
