Volterra (crater)
Encyclopedia
Volterra is a lunar
crater
that is located in the northern latitudes on the far side of the Moon
. To the northeast is the crater Olivier
, and to the south-southwest lies von Békésy
. This is an eroded crater formation, particularly along the western side where the rim is more uneven. A small crater lies across the northeast rim edge. The interior floor is relatively level in the eastern half, while the west is marked by several remnants of small craterlets in the surface.
Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

Impact crater
In the broadest sense, the term impact crater can be applied to any depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body...

Olivier (crater)
Olivier is an old, eroded crater that is located in the northern hemisphere on the far side of the Moon. It lies in a region of dense cratering on all sides. To the east-southeast is a younger but comparably sized crater named Störmer...

Von Békésy (crater)
Von Békésy is a worn lunar crater on the far side of the Moon. It is located in the northern latitudes, behind the northeastern limb of the Moon as seen from the Earth. This is a relatively isolated crater formation, the closest named crater being Volterra, just over one crater diameter to the...

Satellite craters
By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Volterra.Volterra | Latitude | Longitude | Diameter |
