Voorhees Middle School is the only middle school in the township of Voorhees, New Jersey
. It has over 1,500 students and a large number of teachers, resources, and activities.
VMS, as it is known, is rated among the top 5 middle schools in New Jersey for the years 2004 and 2006 by South Jersey Magazine.
Voorhees Middle School hosts grades 6-8 and makes the transition from elementary school to high school. The grades are split up and there are five wings: A-E.
VMS offers foreign languages to seventh and eighth grades, but not to sixth besides an introductory course into Spanish culture. In seventh grade, students have an opportunity to try out Spanish and French, and in eight grade few are selected to take Eastern High School's first course on the language of choice instead of reading.
There are accelerated and regular mathematic classes. They both cover the same subject but the accelerated class goes quicker and starts into the next year's studies.
Voorhees Middle School currently offers various clubs to try to get students involved. They are Art, Drama, Track, Field Hockey, Basketball, Wrestling, Soccer, and various other clubs available to anyone who signs up.
Courses offered are math, science, reading, social studies, and language, with the exception of the eighth graders who can opt out of reading and do a foreign language instead.
Health and gym cycles alternate every half marking period; there are eight half marking periods.
Related arts are chosen automatically every marking period and include music, computers, tech ed and other various arts.
Children are split up into three groups in every grade. There are the red, white, and blue teams. In the 2009-2010 school season, the children stayed with the same group all day. In the 2010-2011 school season, the children in each class varied.
