History
In 1978, a group of married couples, supported by the Catholic Church, formed the Willwoods Community. They joined forces with the Louisiana Educational Television Authority, which had been looking for a way to get its programming into the state's biggest market, to obtain the other noncommercial license for New Orleans. On December 14, 1981, under the banner of the Educational Broadcasting Foundation, the partnership obtained an educational broadcast license. Finally, in July of 1984, WLAE-TV signed on as a PBS member station. In addition to offering PBS programming, WLAE also airs local educational programming, as well as some programming from LPB (mostly news and public affairs). LPB joined in the effort to get WLAE on the air to give the state's biggest market a chance to see its locally-based programming.
