This station originally signed on in 1970 as WOBR-AM, and was the first radio station to sign on in the Outer Banks. Throughout the 1970s & early 1980s , the station had an adult contemporary format. By the mid eighties it had gone to a country format. In the late 80s, the station went to a religious format which it maintains to this day. On 4/11/2000, the calls were changed to WOBX-AM
