The station signed on in 1979 as WWNH. Then in 1983 the calls were changed to WXKZ and to WCYT in 1986 and within a year to WKOS by 1987.The station went on the air as WKOS-FM on 1987-12-18. On 1990-12-17, the station changed its call sign to WWEM, on 1995-04-03 to WSRI and on 1997-09-29 to the current WQSO.
