Waiting for the Day was commercially successful in Australia, reaching the top twenty on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart and receiving one ARIA Award with five nominations. In mid November 1998, it debuted at number twenty-one on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. On the album's second chart week, it move up one spot to its peak chart position of twenty.
