History

Wake Tech was founded on April 3, 1958 as the Wake County Industrial Education Center. The school opened its doors on October 7, 1963, with 304 enrolled students, 34 of whom were registered in curriculum studies and 270 who were enrolled in vocational training programs. The school became Wake Technical Community College on December 1, 1987.

 and Fuquay-Varina. It consists of 13 buildings, most of which contain classrooms and faculty offices. Other buildings include Student Services, Bookstore, Independent Learning Center, and a Child Care Facility.

Northern Wake Campus

In July 2007, Wake unveiled a newly-built $30.6 million environmentally-friendly campus in North Raleigh located on US 401 in northeastern Raleigh.

Athletics

The Wake Tech athletic teams compete in 8 varsity sports in the NJCAA Region X. 2008 marked the inaugural year for sports at Wake Tech. Women's volleyball, Men's soccer, and golf were the first sports during the 2008-2009 school year. The following year, 2009-2010, was added by Men's and Women's basketball, baseball, softball, and cheer-leading. Men's golf took 1st place in the Region X Division 1 Golf Championship 2009. The following year was started off by the Men's soccer team taking 2nd in the Region X Division 1.
