). He has been a national spokesman for the GED. He subsequently earned his college degree and has written five books, including his memoir "Meant to Be," published by HarperCollins in 2003.

Anderson is the recipient of the 1994 Horatio Alger Award, which honors individuals who have succeeded in the face of adversity.
