Wani is situated geographically on the banks of river Nirguda. Nirguda which is north - west side of Wani, have been affected by the years of mining in the region and small dams on the river.
There are number of Coal mines operating in the region and proved major revenue generator for Coal India under Indian Government. Apart from coal which is abundant in the region, other minerals like lime and more are found in the region.
Excessive mining has badly affected the environment of city and surroundings. Air pollution and lowering ground water level are of great concerns to look after. In summer (March - June) the temperature rises to the extends of 50 degree cl. which is a warning bell for city residents.
Bulls are traded for various purposes more importantly for agri works.
In Wani, there is Sai Baba's temple which is running by Sai Samiti Wani. Located on Wani-Yavatmal Road. This temple is beautifully constructed and neatly managed. Every year at Gurupornima big Shobha-Yatra is arranged.
Jaitai is town deity(Gram devata) of Wani.
Near this temple Jai-tai temple is there, which also very popular in the region. There is Big Festival in Navaratri.
In Wani beside old State Bank There is Shri Ram Mandir oldest temple of Wani which is running by Verma's family. Every year on ramnavmi big Shobha-Yatra is arranged This temple is 108 years old
and was established by late Mrs. Laxmibai after her death this temple was running by the late Shri NandkishoreVerma. Presently this temle is runnig by Krushnakumar N. Verma and Rajkumar N. verma.
Lokmanya Tilak Mahavidyalya is one of the oldest and renowned college run by Shikshan Prasaran Mandal, Wani.
Courses offered include HSC, BSC, B.A, Bcom, M.A, B.Pharm and others.
