Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to that of WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, but microgames are only played using the stylus, touch screen and microphone. Examples of microgames include scratching Wario's back, cutting a rope so a cage falls on a duck, and catching fish in a net. After successfully completing a number of microgames, smaller, mostly non-competitive "toys" are unlocked. These use the touch-screen to achieve tasks, such as playing with a yo-yo

.

The mini-games are separated by certain characters, including 9-Volt, Mona, Mike, Dr.Crygor, Jimmy T., Ashley, Kat and Ana, and Wario himself. Each character has their own theme, for example; Mike's mini-games are completed using the microphone on the DS, Jimmy T.'s mini-games include rubbing the screen, Kat and Ana are solved by drawing, and so forth. As you grow to higher levels, the speed of the game increases.

Plot

Wario is walking along holding two items that resemble a Game Boy Advance (or quite possibly a Game Boy Micro) and a Game Boy Advance SP when he accidentally drops both into an open sewer. An angel comes out and asks if he dropped the two Game Boy Advance like items or a different item resembling a Nintendo DS. Wario states flatly to give him all of them and pounces the angel in order to get them. They fall into the sewer and Wario emerges holding the DS-like item. He attempts to play a whack-a-mole type game on the lower screen, but since there are no buttons, Wario fails. He attempts rotating the device (as it worked in the past game, WarioWare: Twisted!), but that didn't work, either. Wario shakes the device in anger, causing a "weird stick", resembling a stylus, to fly out of the device. Wario attempts to play the whack-a-mole game again. Now that he has the "stylus", he simply taps the mole with it and passes the game. After deciding that it's a fun game, he decides to trick his friends into making a load of stylus-controlled games, his logic being that with two screens, he can make twice as much money.

After the player completes all the sets of microgames, Wario falls ill. To recover, he eats some nasty looking garlic, which transforms him into Wario-Man. Eager to show off his new powers, he tries to stop a train, but is knocked into the air, all the way back to Diamond City. He lands in the same sewer at the start of the game, and reverts back to his original form. He jumps out of the sewer, followed by a very angry angel, who beats him up.

Reception

The game received generally positive reviews from critics.

Another WarioWare title is available on the Nintendo DSi system, WarioWare: Snapped! The game requires the player to place the DSi on a table and move their arms and head in a series of minigames. Once all the minigames are completed, the game creates a slideshow or video of the player doing the tasks, usually speeding them up, or freezing them into a picture. There are three sets of minigames for one player, and one for two players. The game is currently available for the Nintendo e-shop and on the Nintendo DSi Store.
