The game was ridiculed for the absence of "responsive" controls, as well as Wario's sloppy movement.
The game's difficulty was called by some "out of the comfort zone for a platforming game." Though the game held up attainable amounts of speed through each level, obstacles that would render Wario immobile or otherwise hinder his abilities, such as slowed movement, lower jumps and so on, gave the game a harsh tag as a "slow-paced game."
