Warren Limmer is a Minnesota
politician and a member of the Minnesota Senate
representing District 32, which includes portions of Hennepin
and Wright
counties in the northwestern Twin Cities
metropolitan area.
, Limmer was first elected to the Senate in the old District 33 in a February 1995 special election held after Senator Patrick McGowan resigned upon being elected Hennepin County Sheriff
. He was re-elected in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2010, running unopposed in 2010. He served as an assistant minority leader
from 2005 to 2006.
Prior to being elected to the Senate, Limmer was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives
, being first elected in 1988 in the old House District 48A, and re-elected in 1990, 1992 and 1994. After the 1992 redistricting
, the area was known as House District 33B.
Limmer is currently the chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee. He is also a member of the Senate's Local Government and Elections, Rules and Administration, and Taxes committees. His special legislative concerns include criminal justice, public education, safe school legislation, economic development, and tax reform.
In April 2011, Limmer introduced an amendment to ban gay marriage in Minnesota. The amendment passed the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee on April 27, 2011.
