on the west side of the highway. Approaching Enumclaw the highway turns east onto 436th Street, which becomes Griffin Avenue once the highway enters the city limits. Inside Enumclaw, the highway continues, intersecting the southern terminus of SR 164, before terminating at SR 410.
Every year the Washington State Department of Transportation
(WSDOT) conducts a series of surveys on its highways in the state to measure traffic volume. This is expressed in terms of average annual daily traffic (AADT), which is a measure of traffic volume for any average day of the year. In 2009, WSDOT calculated that as few as 7.300 cars use the highway at its eastern terminus in Enumclaw, and as many as 34,000 cars use the highway at Riverwalk Avenue in Auburn. The entire highway is listed the WSDOT List of Highways of Statewide Significance, which marks the highway as a critical to connecting major communities in the state.

Route description
SR 164 begins at an interchange with SR 18 in Auburn, along a road named Auburn Way South. The highway travels southeasterly through Auburn, exiting city limits and entering the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation. The Muckleshoot Casino is to the north of the highway as it travels east through tribal land. After exiting the reservation, the name of the road changes to the Auburn Enumclaw Road, traveling southeast through lightly populated rural King County.
