. It is one of the city's oldest public high schools, first accredited in 1965. It has a large and diverse population of students from the Fresno metropolitan area. Music program

For seven years, the marching band had been under the direction of Mel Stratton who was a member of the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps. After the completion of the 2006-2007 school year Mel Stratton retired as band director. Former Buchanan High School Band & Colorguard Director, Michael E. Hipp, has taken over the position. Along with Michael E. Hipp, there's Brandon Gladden and
, Juan Gomez. In 2010, The Washington Union High School Marching Band won Grand Sweepstakes at the Selma Band review. The band is known as one of the founding bands of the review.

Baseball program

The Washington Union baseball program has won a total of 6 Central Section Divisional Championships. The most recent coming in 2010 by defeating Kerman 8-7. They also won the Division IV state championship, the school's first, the year before by defeating Selma 2-1. The program has become a powerhouse over the past 4 years, but with a coaching change may have less luck. Coach Mike Curran lead the Panthers to 2 Section Championships, a state championship, 4 Chowchilla Tournament Championships, 2 Fowler Easter Classic Championships and has put out 4 All State athletes in Matt Garza(Pitcher for the Chicago Cubs) would be the most notable. But he's accompanied by three who were on the same team at the same time in Andrew Rich, Adam McCurley, and Yafett Thomas.

Football program

The Washington Union football program has won the Central Section Divisional Championship 4 times in recent years. The most recent being the 2010 Division IV Valley Championship against Coalinga 48-21.
Washington Union has taken the name of The Quarterback Warehouse over the passed few seasons with record setting performances from Adam Rothenflu, Mike Garza(Bother of MLB pitcher Matt Garza), Ebahn Feathers, Adam McCurley, and the most recent, Sean Stell.
Washington Union has had a winning season every year for the passed 20 years.
