. It serves the students of the city of Watervliet and the surrounding townships education needs for grades 9 – 12.

Mission statement

To enable students to acquire essential literacy and cultural awareness; develop pride in accomplishment and value achievement; and become responsible, self-supporting citizens with mastery of personal life skills.

Academics

Watervliet High School, was first accredited by the Michigan North Central Association in the1930-1931 school year and continues to have accreditation from Education Yes!, Michigan’s current system of school accreditation.

Teachers in core curriculum’s of English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, and high school arts all meet the No Child Left Behind Act’s (NCLB) definition of Highly Qualified. Students at WHS also surpassed state averages for the American College Testing (ACT) test (Composite: 22.2/21.6 WHS/State, English: 21.1/20.4, Math: 21.8/21.2, Reading: 22.7/21.7, Science: 22.3/21.6)

Watervliet also has a graduation rate of 90.95% with a drop out rate of 2.38%.

Athletics

Watervliet competes in the Southwest Athletic Conference of Michigan. They are led by athletic director Ken Dietz. They have a fall lineup of football, volleyball, cross-country, equestrian, and cheerleading, a winter lineup of boys and girls basketball as well as wrestling and spring sports of boys and girls track, softball, baseball, and golf.

The teams hold many trophies for district and regional championships as well as many trophies in invitational tournaments. They also hold the 3rd place trophy for state power lifting in 2003. In 2005 the boys baseball team got to the quarterfinals of the Division 3 baseball tournament in the state of Michigan, but lost to Homer High School, 11-5.
