Waubra was known as The Springs until around 1888. The Post Office opened on 20 April 1860 as The Springs and was renamed Waubra in 1889.

The town was served by a Victorian Railways

. They won the 2006 Grand Final and Runners up to Daylesford in the 2007 Grand Final, and the reserves won the 2007 grand final.
In 2010 waubra won the Under 17.5 Grand final against Daylesford in a close match with Jack Faull best on.
