Waubra was known as The Springs until around 1888. The Post Office opened on 20 April 1860 as The Springs and was renamed Waubra in 1889.
The town was served by a Victorian Railways
5' 3" (1600mm) gauge branchline which opened in October 1888. In 1931, passenger services were withdrawn and the line continued as a "goods only" line through to its closure in January 1968.

In 2010 waubra won the Under 17.5 Grand final against Daylesford in a close match with Jack Faull best on.
