History
For many years the Middle School had been located in Wayland Center in what is now the Wayland Town Building. By 1969, school officials became concerned with the building's deteriorating condition and started planning for a new building. Originally, plans called for demolishing the existing Junior High and building a new structure over its footprint. However, the Wayland town administration needed to expand from its current quarters and occupied the old school building. As a result, a new site was selected on Route 27 by Cochituate Village. Construction began on the new school in 1971 and was completed in the fall of 1972. The building is a large rectangle, with classroom spaces concentrated on one end and all other functions at the opposite end with a gymnasium anchor. The school originally housed 7th and 8th grade until about 1980 when the 6th grade was moved from Wayland's three elementary schools. The building received minor renovation in the early 1990s.School Structure and Curriculum
