Wayne A. Johnston was president of Illinois Central Railroad
(IC) from 1945 to 1966. When he stepped down from the presidency of the railroad, he was named Chairman of the Board for IC, a position he held for a year. In 1967, he was also named president of the University of Illinois
Board of Trustees, of which he had been a member since 1950.
In 1949, Johnston served as the Treasurer for the Chicago Railroad Fair
