Nicknamed "Weed", he was a fearsome looking character with long blond hair and a fierce star reminiscent of a Viking

 warrior. He had a cult following amongst Adelaide fans, and the collective cry of "Weed" could be heard whenever he went near the ball during an Adelaide home game.

Weidemann played 68 AFL games between 1991-1996 and kicked 26 goals. Before playing with the Crows in the AFL, Weidemann was a player for the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club

 in the SANFL. After his retirement from the AFL, he took up the position as senior coach with the West Adelaide Football Club

Wayne was an assistant coach at Devonport in the Tasmanian Statewide Football league and won a William Leitch Medal

 while playing for them in 1998.

Weidemann also coached the Coolamon Rovers Football club in the Riverina Football league from 1999-2001, taking them to 2 Grand Finals and one Premiership during his tenure. Wayne is also credited with turning the then struggling club around instilling a professional attitude to the small town club.

In 2010, Weidemann is coaching at SAAFL
