The station was built in 1911 and is owned by the Town of Barnstable, Massachusetts
. The Cape Cod Chapter, National Railway Historical Society [www.capecodnrhs.org], holds a long term lease and is in the process of restoring the building as a historical train museum. The station is open Saturdays May through October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also hosts numerous community events, including the West Barnstable village festival in August and the Cranberry Express in October and the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce's North Pole Express in December.
