. Their mascot is the Thunder, with school colors of black, white, and forest green. The school has 2 state championships on record in team athletics and activities, Music in 2009-2010, and 2010-2011 (Class B).
In addition, predecessor high school, Savanna High School, won 6 state championships in Boys Wrestling (1973-1974 A, 1974-1975 A, 1976-1977 A, 1978-1979 A, 1979-1980 A, and 1981-1982 A) and 1 in Individual Events (1940–1941). The wrestling tally makes the school the 3rd most successful Boys Wrestling program in Illinois high school history in terms of championships.
Two years before the opening of West Carroll, Savanna and Mount Carroll began a cooperative sharing program for several sports, including football. (It was at this time the Thunder mascot was used.) Prior to the cooperative, Savanna amassed a 63-game losing streak in football, dating to October 1995; the streak was once the subject of a Sports Illustrated
story by columnist Rick Reilly.
The West Carroll cooperative football was a success, winning its first game in 2003 and eventually getting playoff berths in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
WCHS forms a large coop for boys and girls swimming and diving with regional neighbors Byron High School
