The Western Canadian Championship 2009 was a Gaelic football
competition. Canada's west coast, in the provinces of British Columbia & Alberta, Gaelic Football teams compete for the title of Western Canadian Champions. The Western Canadian Championship is played out every year between the member teams of the Western Canada Division
. Each year the Championship is played out over round-robin matches in each gender, with each of the 5-member clubs playing the other teams twice over the summer months. In 2009, however, after the 1st Round of matches, the Championship was played out in a Knock-out format. The following is a summary of how the 2009 Championship played out.
Round
topped the table with a impressive victories over the Wolfe Tones & the Chieftainettes. In the Finals in Edmonton, the Albertan Ladies had their best showings in a number of seasons, however the Harps dominated and deservedly took their 3rd title in a row.

Western Divisional Board
The Western Canada Divisional Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association is part of the Canadian County Board and is responsible for Gaelic Games in Western Canada. The county board is also responsible for the football, hurling, camogie and Ladies' Gaelic football, known collectively as Gaelic games...

After the first Round, all the teams in the Division had recorded victories, but Red Deer were knocked out placing 5th. The Semi Finals saw the remaining Albertan sides have victory over the Vancouver sides. Calgary beating the Harps, and Edmonton defeating the Celts.
