The Western Herald is different from many student newspapers because it does not receive university funding. During the fall and winter semesters the Herald goes to print two days a week (Monday and Thursday) and typically contains 8–14 pages each day. The Herald follows a limited printing schedule during the two summer academic terms. On Thursday the Herald also prints the Weekend Scene, an arts and entertainment guide for the Kalamazoo area.
The Western Herald provides news about the students, campus events and activities, as well as sporting events, opinion sections, and local culture and politics.
