living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% were non-families. 32.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.9 males.

Attractions
Whittemore Speedway is located in Northeast Michigan in the small city of Whittemore. It is a 1\4 mile, asphalt, oval, high banked race track. Races run from Memorial Day to Labor Day every Saturday night. The track's grand stands can hold nearly 1,500 fans. The track was created spur of the moment, in 1948, to use as entertainment at a local carnival. The Whittemore Speedway is Michigan's oldest operational speedway. The track has had only one major accident in its 73 years resulting in the tragic death of Ronald Troxell in 1973. The Whittemore Speedway Racing Club has always served as a non-profit organization. All of the club's profits go to fund community programs and happenings. The Club also aids local schools by donating three $1,000 scholarships each year.Administration
