Bynum signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel
before the 2006–07 season. He played for Maccabi for two years and reached the Euroleague's
final in 2008
, averaging 10.6 points and 3 assists per game.
In the 2008-09 season, Bynum joined the Detroit Pistons
. In a game against the Charlotte Bobcats on April 5, 2009, Bynum set the Pistons' club record for points in a quarter by an individual player, netting 26 in the fourth quarter of a winning effort.
On March 12, 2010, Bynum became the first Piston in 25 years to record 20 assists in a game, getting 20 in a 101-87 victory over the Washington Wizards
. That was the most assists recorded by anybody in one game in that season. The previous Piston to reach 20 had been Bynum's childhood idol, Isiah Thomas
on April 12, 1985.

It was initially alleged that Bynum, who was out celebrating his 25th birthday, hit the man with his vehicle after a brawl in which his brother was stabbed, and other players were attacked as well. The prosecution also claimed he would try to flee the country if released. As a result, a judge extended his remand. He was later released to house arrest.
Bynum's case was eventually closed with no charges, the investigation determining that the collision was not intentional and that his actions were justified. The Tel Aviv district attorney announced: "It was found that Bynum was in tangible danger. Under the circumstances he was forced to escape in his car immediately in order to save himself. Therefore the prosecutor's office has decided that the accident took place in circumstances that forced Bynum to protect himself. As a result he is exempt of criminal responsibility."
