.
In 1943 he married Mary Asquith, granddaughter of Herbert Henry Asquith, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
from 1908 to 1916 and 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith
. Rous became Earl of Stradbroke
after the death of his brother John
in 1983.
He died himself four days after inheriting the earldom, leaving two sons:
