Minor & under-21
Walsh joined the Cork minor hurling team in the mid-1960s, and in 1966 won a Munster minor title. He later joined the county’s under-21 team, with which he won a Munster title in 1968, before winning his first All-Ireland
medal. In 1969, he played at centre-forward, when Cork won the Munster and All-Ireland contests.
Senior
Walsh won a National Hurling League
medal with the Cork team in 1969, before his first senior Munster
title, following a win over Tipperary
. Subsequently, Cork played in the All-Ireland final, however his side were defeated by Kilkenny
. In 1970, Cork once again reached the All-Ireland final, defeating Wexford
, where Walsh received his second consecutive National League and Munster medals, and his first All-Ireland
medal. Walsh left the Cork team, but returned in 1974 to win a third National League medal. He added his third Munster title in 1975, as Cork were defeated by Galway
in the All-Ireland semi-final.
In the 1970s, Walsh’s was part of the panel of Cork Senior selectors.
