Overview

On Sunday, May 27 2007, thousands of Ethiopians including Abadula Gemeda, the President of Oromia Region, gathered in Nekemte to celebrate the official inauguration of Wollega University, one of the new public universities being established under the University Capacity Building Program (UCBP). The university started with 1600 students and it currently has 4,048 students, according to UCBP. It has 32 departments and it is expanding its facilities. Wollega University also provides medical laboratory science training. When complete, Wollega University will accommodate 12,000 students.
