Mission

The mission of WDI is "to improve the lives of working families across New York State by providing programs in workforce intelligence, economic development, training and education, cultural enrichment, family support, and disabled and dislocated worker services."

History

WDI was developed in partnership with the New York State AFL-CIO

 and has access to the knowledge and experience of New York's 2.4 million unionized workers. It has a strategic network across the state and services aligned with Area Labor Federations.

Programs

Workforce Intelligence: WDI has a significant presence in every major region across New York State. As such, WDI recognizes its responsibility to share its knowledge and resources in the form of economic and public policy research.

, WDI provides childcare subsidy assistance to working families. WDI facilitates the application process and helps families locate appropriate and safe child care providers.

Education and Training: WDI provides funding, when appropriate, to help train and educate New York's workforce. The organization has funded over 60,000 hours of instruction to over 33,000 dislocated workers, union members, and their families.

Green Corner: WDI is a leader in training related to green jobs. It established the NYS Apollo Alliance

Art of Labor: WDI sponsors Art of Labor, workshops that create positive images of workers across New York State. After completing the course, participants display their photographs and stories in venues around the state.

Vocational Services: WDI collaborates with community colleges to provide specialized education and training to disabled individuals.
