. Serving as the administrative center
of the Zhmerynsky Raion (district
), the town itself is also designated as a separate community within the oblast, and is located at around 49°03′N 28°06′E.
The current estimated population is around 37.000 (as of 2010).
Zhmerynka's first mention in recorded history was in the 17th century. Since incorporating as a town in 1903, it has become an important transportation centre in the area.
