The 2002 Championships were held at the Malley Ice Rink in Lausanne, Switzerland from January 14 through 20th. The event was open to skaters belonging to a European member nation of the International Skating Union
. The corresponding competition for non-European skaters was the 2002 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
.
The first compulsory dance was the Ravensburger Waltz. The second was Blues. Due to the large number of participants, the ladies and men's qualifying groups were split into groups A and B.
