The winning of the of the 2018 games by Gold Coast, Australia presents a huge problem for Christchurch or any Oceania region Candidate city. Consecutive games held in the same Commonwealth region are only allowed if there are not candidates from the remaining five regions. With the 2022 games it is possible that this bid cycle will have the most candidate regions in the history of the games.
