A13 (Croatia)
Encyclopedia
The A13 motorway is a planned motorway
, expected to be built in the central Croatia
northeast from Vrbovec
, extending towards the cities of Bjelovar
and Virovitica
. At present, only the Vrbovec 2 interchange, the starting (western) terminus of the A13 has been completed. It is planned to be constructed as a six lane motorway and extended northeast to Bjelovar
, Virovitica
and Terezino Polje border crossing to Hungary
.
The A13 motorway represents the eastern arm of the so called Podravina Y, as the western arm is the partially constructed (as an expressway) A12 motorway
. The A13 is planned to branch off from the A12 at the Vrbovec 2 interchange, which is generally completed at this time, although it may not be used by motorists driving on the A12 at the moment as that exit is currently blocked.
The first section to be built shall be the 27.5 km (17.1 mi) long section between Vrbovec 2 interchange (already completed) and Bjelovar
, where the motorway shall default to the D43 state road
. Four interchanges, apart from Vrbovec 2, are planned on that section: Kapela
and Farkaševac
interchanges to the Ž3041 (to Haganj
) and Ž2231 (to Kenđelovec
and Farkaševac
) county roads respectively, Gudovac
to the D28 state road to the western parts of Bjelovar and Bjelovar
interchange to the D43 state road
and the northern and the eastern parts of the city. The works related to the section have been officially announced in 2009, however no construction took place for more than a year.
Currently, the motorway is not expected to be completed before 2013.
The A13 had been formally announced in May 2009, but actual project planning, licensing and construction has all been delayed and postponed to a yet undetermined date, causing it to be criticized as a pre-election stunt for the Croatian local elections, 2009
