In 2010, the VHSL decided to rejoin the Valley District, with a few modifications. The Massanutten District teams would stay intact and would be joined by Fort Defiance, Robert E. Lee, and Waynesboro. Rockbridge County moved to the Blue Ridge District and Stuarts Draft moved down to Group 'A' Shenandoah District. The Valley District, however, will not move back to Region II, instead, the conference will be a member of Region III.

Fort Defiance, Robert E. Lee, Spotswood, and Waynesboro will be participants of VHSL Division III, while Broadway, Harrisonburg, and Turner Ashby will be participants of VHSL Division IV. The VHSL Divisional Alignments only are effective in Football, Boys Basketball, and Girls Basketball and the divisions are based upon school enrollment.

The Valley District will begin play within VHSL Group 'AA' and Region III beginning in the Fall of 2011.
