The Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band (ALCAL) is a competitive grade 1 pipe band
based out of Calgary
and Edmonton
, Alberta
, Canada
. The group was originally established in Edmonton in 1982, as the grade 1 Edmonton Caledonia Pipe Band. However, the band's name was later tailored in the mid 90's, after receiving a large influx of talented players from Calgary. For the past 11 years, the band has attended the World Pipe Band Championships
religiously (2000–2010) and have placed as high as 7th in the final round of the World's in 2001. The band has also recorded 2 CD's, "They Took Their Leave" and "Another Round", both of which have been released in the last 10 years. ALCAL still remains as one of the top competitive pipe bands in the world to this day. The band is currently under the leadership of Pipe Major Andrew Smith
