Renowned for his odd bowling style - taking only a couple of steps before delivering the ball, Hurwood played for Queensland before being called up to the Australian squad for summer of 1930/31.

Hurwood was unlucky, after gaining very respectable figures from his 2 Tests, to be dropped in favour of bowlers returning to the squad from injury.
