 competing amateur Senior "A" ranks. The trophy was presented by Viscount Alexander, the then Governor-General of Canada.

In the first season, five super-leagues were constructed to compete for the Alexander Cup, by the fourth the field of competition had faltered down to only one league in the Maritime provinces. Ultimately, the cup was a failure and was retired after only being awarded four times.
