Allan was promoted to the Breakfast show on sister station Core
. After eight months, the show ended, after the station's owners decided to switch the station to a non-stop music format. During his time in London, Allan was also a regular cover presenter for Capital 95.8
. After guesting on Generation Mix, he has covered shows for GCap's Coast 96.3 and Red Dragon FM
, where he was controversial fired and rehired, after getting listeners to call the programme controller to try and persuade him to hire him.
During his time on the Evening show, Allan caused Red Dragon to have its building lease reviewed after he ordered a live cow to be delivered to the studios and also revealed CCTV footage of 2 staff members having sex on the stations pool table. He also had an on air verbal fight with Welsh Big Brother housemate Laura, after Allan accused her of being racist towards the English.
Allan left his evening show on Red Dragon on 13 March 2008 after his show was to be replaced by GCap networked evening show Music Control
, and left the station on 16 March after his last Sunday "Takeover" show. After leaving Red Dragon, he covered on Xfm South Wales and Oxford's FM 107.9, before joining Invicta FM

before leaving to work at newstation Absolute Radio, previously known as Virgin Radio. He joined on 27 September 2008 and presented over nights Allan had his contract at Absolute Radio terminated in April 2009, just 7 months into the life of the new station and Allans tenure on overnights. He was censured by OFCOM for promoting e-cigarettes sent to him. Lake was sent a free e-cigarette by a manufacturer and was noted to have constantly referred to the cigarette. Ofcom found there ‘was no editorial justification for the frequency and prominence of these references’ and the broadcaster in breach of rules 10.3 and 10.4 of the broadcasting code. Absolute Radio in their public comments on the issue described the comments as ‘an ill-judged editorial choice on the part of the presenter’.
Allan returned to radio on 20 July 2009 with a show on his own internet radio
station, No Rules Radio, which he says breaks free from regulations set on FM radio. His show currently broadcasts from 10pm-1am Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As of late March 2010 Allan also presented on Nation Radio

. He started presenting the breakfast show, between 7am & 11am, for only a few days when he was moved to the evening show, which broadcasts Sunday to Thursday from 7pm until 10pm.
Now working for himself, and marketing the show through his production company, No Rules, Lake does a weekend show geared to 'general audiences,' and syndicated to various stations, whilst also doing a thrice weekly uncensored comedy talk show streamed on the hugely popular adult site Redtube
's bespoke player. Due to his listenership having spread across the Atlantic, The Allan Lake Show is variously an 'Lunchtime Show' in the US and an 'Evening Show' in the UK. Joined by co-host/writer Fat Steve from his broadcasting bunker under the Manhattan Bridge in New York City, the new Allan Lake Show has been getting new listeners each week and the uncensored show is consistently ranked among the top 5 most-listened-to talk shows in the Shoutcast charts. The new transatlantic appeal is not just for the 'blue' content apparently, according to WizardNet, Allan managed to crash an 100,000 listener strong streaming audio server during his coverage of the 2010 UK General election- with 95% of the traffic coming from America- where the election was followed closely by a determined core of devoted Anglophiles, yet barely mentioned by a media completely unfamiliar with the UK political system.
, Allan was joined by a series of other people who made regular appearances. Adam Morris, known on air as The General joined him as teaboy at Capital Disney, eventually taking the reins of the show when Allan left. Allan was also joined by co-host Chloe, Radio DJs Pat Sharp
and radio legend and mentor Mark Fox, engineer Robin and jingle
maker Tyler. On Core, newsreader Ben Evans also joined, with other Core

During The Allan Lake Show's tenure on Absolute Radio, Allan introduced two new members to his team. Phone Boy Sam, who originally started his relationship with Lake as a fan and caller but now is the shows phone operator and appears on mic through-out the course of the broadcast. Second member of the team is Producer Northern Monkey, originally from Hull he has worked with Allan on previous radio stations for brief spells. During a show in February 2011, a caller asked what the two of them were up to now that they no longer graced Allan's show. Allan's response was "I don't know, but I am positive that Sam is putting his talents to good use and Monkey is still being a massive." Allan has yet to reveal what word was bleeped.

His current co-host is Fat Steve, the pseudonymous New York based comedy writer with whom he has done much of his US-based work.
