, is locally classified as a first-class, highly-urbanized city. Its name is derived from El Pueblo de los Ángeles (The Town of the Angels, in Spanish
) in honor of its patron saints, Los Santos Ángeles de los Custodios (Holy Guardian Angels), and the name of its founder, Don Ángel Pantaleón de Miranda. The city administers itself autonomously from Pampanga and, as of August 2007, it has a population of 314,493.
