Archis Tiku

Archis Tiku (born 6 May 1977 in Bombay, India
) is a founding member and bass guitarist of British indie rock
band Maxïmo Park
.
parents, Archis moved to the UK with his family when he was one year old. He grew up in Wigan
and attended Bolton School
. In 1995 he moved to Newcastle upon Tyne
to study medicine at Newcastle University.
Whilst in halls, Archis formed a band with three other friends, one of whom was Duncan Lloyd
. Finding themselves with too many guitarists and no bass guitarist, Archis stepped into the breach.
Not content with completing his studies and working as a local doctor, Archis continued to appear with Duncan in various pub bands over the next few years, which ended in a fortuitous meeting with Lukas Wooller
, current keyboard player of Maxïmo Park
.
Archis Tiku was the original shared lead singer (along with Duncan Lloyd) of Maxïmo Park
, but never had any intention of being their frontman.
When Paul Smith
was discovered by the then-girlfriend of drummer Tom English in a pub, while he was singing along to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", Archis turned his full concentration to playing bass.
Whilst studying at Newcastle University, Archis performed with some distinction for the Medics B football team in the Intra Mural League.
