Autoblog
Encyclopedia
Autoblog is a neologism and misnomer
used to describe a particular type of website
which uses software designed to automatically add content in a blog
format. The owner of an autoblog is generally referred to as an autoblogger. Engaging in this practice is called autoblogging.
Autoblogging does not require a site owner to create original web content
. An autoblogger merely installs the necessary software, and configures its settings to collect the type of content desired. The automated software handles the rest.
Articles are typically blog scraped
from web feeds
such as Atom
and RSS
using keywords selected according to the targeted topics. Content material can also be gathered directly from aggregators
like Yahoo! Answers
, Flickr
, and YouTube
. The collected content is sometimes rewritten before posting it using article spinning
software. Sometimes it is simply reposted verbatim regardless of possible copyright infringement (see plagiarism
).
An autoblog usually rebroadcasts its posted content through its own web feeds
. It can also automatically post linked content summaries to affiliated microblogs
such as Twitter
in order to immediately establish multiple backlinks
.
An autoblog (also known as Splog) usually but not always is a blackhat SEO
tool, an automated blog intended to gain and influence search engine
rankings through spamdexing
.
