The group was formed in the mid 1990s. Hélène Bergeron and Albert Arsenault are siblings, and Louise Arsenault is a distant cousin of theirs, but Chuck Arsenault is not related. The name of the group refers to a barachois

Paul Gallant was a former member of the band and left some years ago to pursue a career with "Le Conseil des arts de Chéticamp" as well as writing songs for several artists from the east shore.
The band's self-titled debut album was nominated in 1997 for three East Coast Music Awards, winning one of them, Francophone Recording of the Year.
Barachois has toured Canada and the US, as well as 11 other countries.
The band has separated recently. Chuck and Albert are now touring the maritimes and enjoying a success with the "Chuck & Albert" concept including music and skits. Louise and Hélène are currently playing in the traditional French-Acadian band Gadelle.
