Bert Bailey

Albert Edward Bailey better known as Bert Bailey, was a New Zealand-born writer and actor best known for playing Dad Rudd on stage and screen.
, including The Squatter's Daughter
(1907), The Man from Outback (1909) and On Our Selection
(1912), an adaptation of the stories of Steele Rudd
. He also directed and acted in a 1910 film adaptation of The Squatter's Daughter
. In 1912 he ended a 12 year association with theatrical entreprenuer William Anderson
and went into partnership with Julius Grant.
In 1932 Bailey played Dad Rudd in a film version of On Our Selection
, which he also co-wrote. He played the role in three more films, contributing to the script as well for each film. All four Rudd films were directed by Ken G. Hall
who also directed an adaptation
of The Squatter's Daughter.
Biography
Bailey was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia in 1871. He worked extensively in theatre as an actor before turning to play writing as well. Bailey wrote a number of popular plays in collaboration with Edmund DugganEdmund Duggan (playwright)
