. The series premiered on December 6, 2010. It is produced by Undercover Productions Ltd. It tells the story of Runjhun who brings good luck and fortune wherever she goes. However, her own life is riddled with misfortune and hard work because of her circumstances.

Story

The story is set in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. Runjhun is an orphan who has lived with her maternal grandmother, three uncles, their wives and children since she was a child. Runjhun's place and role in the house is that of an unpaid servant who runs errands and helps in the three kitchens of the house. She also assists her three uncles in their business. In spite of this, she is treated very rudely and selfishly by her uncles and aunts who shamelessly exploit her. However, Runjhun remains cheerful, ready to do any work and is never able to say no to any task, no matter how hard it may be. Runjhun's maternal grandmother tries to shield her from the cunning uncles and aunts after she comes to know that Runjhun's horoscope is unique and that she is a 'bhagonwali' who can bring good luck and prosperity wherever she goes. However, Runjhun's aunts plot against her and get her married to a local goon Guddu Shukla who agrees to live with them. Runjhun knows that whatever has happened has happened for good, and she challenges Guddu that she will prove him as a good human being and husband.
Guddu starts showing signs of changing but his friend Jabbu (who does not like Runjhun) points it out and takes him to a bar. Runjhun goes searching for Guddu and with the help of Kukkan (Guddu's other friend) finds him but to her horror he was in the arms of a prostitute (she does not know he is drunk).
They have an argument on that night in which he leaves the house in a later episode he is shown unconscious and he is admitted into a hospital later Runjhun helps him recover. Runjhun's Amma requests Guddu to take Runjhun from her evil uncles and aunts, Guddu wonders why and finds out they want to use Runjhun because of her good fortune. He plans to take her, but she does not want to go (due to misunderstanding created by her aunts and uncles) later on Her Amma tells her about their plans and she vows to fast and circumambulate around the Banyan tree until Guddu comes back.
(Last day of challenge) Guddu comes back and saves her from falling in the temple. He confesses his love and in an emotional scene he talks of all the good she did and they embrace.
She is finally about to leave her uncles and aunts when they use Mahadevi (her cousin)'s wedding as an excuse for her to stay back. She stays and soon finds out her cousin Mahadevi is pregnant with Jabbu's baby and Jabbu refuses to accept her and their child. She is shocked and wants to help Mahadevi but Mahadevi makes her swear that she will not tell anyone about the pregnancy.
Preparations for Mahadevi's wedding are in full swing when she leaves the house for an abortion despite many warnings from Runjhun. At the hospital she uses Runjhun's name on the form so that no one will find out she is pregnant. Guddu happens to be in the same hospital. He is surprised to hear the nurse call Runjhun's name and asks why Runjhun is here. The nurse replies for an abortion. Guddu is shocked since there is no physical relation between Runjhun and him (Runjhun never accepted her feelings for him). He goes in the room and sighs in relief since Runjhun is not there but Mahadevi is. She reveals to him that Jabbu is the father of her child and he talks her out of abortion saying he'll get Jabbu and her married.
Jabbu still refuses to wed Mahadevi and instead tells Guddu of all the bad he's done to Runjhun before marriage. Runjhun comforts Guddu saying she knows he is trying his best and she's proud of him. Mityho (Mahadevi's mom) suspect something wrong. Mahadevi ends up getting married to Kukkan while Guddu takes Runjhun to their home. Runjhun's aunts and uncles reveal to her that she is a Bhagonwali in hope of her returning to their house. Guddu tries to get close to Runjhun but she backs away (scared that he is only using her). Runjhun doubts are growing and she decides to go back and live with her aunts and uncles. Guddu realizes she is drifting away from him and wants to live separately. He ends up putting all his property in her name and decides to leave the city.Runjhun soon finds out and tries to stop him from leaving while dealing with obstacles created by her aunts and uncles and Jabbu.
Runjhun finally reaches the train station and confesses her love to Guddu.They share happy moments and Runjhun turns a deaf ear to her aunts and uncles.Runjhun and Guddu almost consummate their marriage but stop due to frequent disturbances from neighbors & situations that keep Guddu & Runjhun form coming close to each other. Runjhun soon finds out from a baba that she has a big problem with her horoscope, according to her kundli, the men in her life (father, husband & son) will die, therefore, she stays away from Guddu & does not allow him to make love to her. She asks the same baba if there is a solution, & she is told that she will have to perfrom a certain ritual & pooja on the day of Solar eclipse. With Guddu on her side she does everything told to her by the baba, and finally Guddu & Runjhun make love to each other. Mahadevi also finds out about her parents' bad intentions towards Guddu & Runjhun, and starts to like Kukkan.Runjhun's aunt and uncles burn down her house to seek revenge,later on there hoise gets auctioned when Guddu buys it he throws them out allowing Kukkan &Mahadevi to stay along with Runjhun's grandma.Runjhun sees her Aunts&Uncles suffer and feels bad for them while Guddu tries to tell her they deserved it.Guddu&Runjhun's relation turns for the worst as Neelu(Guddu's ex-girlfriend) returns,story continues...

• Runjhun: She has a very unfortunate life, however, she brings good fortune to people around her. Orphaned in childhood, she has been raised by her maternal grandmother. She stays with her three maternal uncles, their wives and children. Runjhun is always cheerful and dutifully performs all tasks handed to her. Her status in the household is of a servant. However, Runjhun has no complaints. Runjhun becomes the victim of the conniving ways of her aunts who marry her off to a local goon who agrees to live in their household.Guddu soon falls in love with her.She also developes feelings for him but does not accept them.

• Guddu Shukla: A young man of 25–26 years, Guddu Shukla is the local goon who runs a carom club and CD library in the area. Confident and temperamental, the real person behind the tough exterior that Guddu sports is not known to many. Guddu is witty and is always equipped with smart one-liners for all occasions. He is happy-go-lucky and lives for the day. He is marriage to Runjhun.He also soon falls in love with her but does not force anything upon her till she confesses her love.

• Ahilya Devi (Nani): She is Runjhun's maternal grandmother, is the only one in the household who showers Runjhun with true love and affection. Her main concern is Runjhun's marriage and wants Runjhun to be blessed with the prince of her dreams. Ahilya Devi often shields Runjhun from the taunts and ire of her uncles and aunts.

• Bantu Pandey: The second son of the Pandey household, Batuknath is called by his pet name Bantu. Bantu is dark, unattractive and slightly plump and is obsessed with his fair and beautiful wife Billo. He is a hen-pecked husband and seeks his wife's advice even for the slightest matters. He runs a saree shop but often shuts it down to come home and spend time with his wife.

• Billo Pandey: The second daughter-in-law of the Pandey household, Billo is the prized possession of her husband Bantu who is dark, unattractive and slightly plump. Coming from a poor family, it was her fair and beautiful complexion which earned her a place in the rich and respected Pandey family. While Billo is obsessed with gold and jewellery, her husband is obsessed with her beauty and often leaves his saree shop to come home and spend time with her. Unsure of her husband's capabilities, Billo gives out auto-rickshaws on hire and has a parallel source of income.

• Rajju Pandey: The eldest son of the Pandey household, Rajjannath is hardly ever known by his real name. Popularly known as Rajju, he deals in the manufacturing and export perfumes. Rajju is self-centered and egoistic and regards himself to be highly successful and influential. He is a hen-pecked husband and falls even for the slightest flattery.

• Mittho Pandey: The eldest daughter-in-law of the Pandey household, Mitho is known to all as a glib and sweet talker. However, few know how ruthless, cold and cunning she can really be. Mittho believes in spending money for the sake of maintaining her status in the society. She has managed to keep her husband Rajju wrapped around her little finger with her incessant flattery of even his tiniest action. Behind his back, Mittho mocks at Rajju's foolishness but is happy that she is able to manipulate him.

• Vishnu Pandey: The youngest son of the Pandey household, Vishnu is a criminal lawyer by profession and operates out of a makeshift office at home. His dream is to become a politician and is often seen making contacts and networking. Vishnu's relations with his wife Kalsanwali are not cordial and he often beats her up. He believes in keeping her under control and showing her that he is the 'boss' around. However, Kalsanwali does not take things lying down and retaliates in an equally aggressive manner.

• Kalsanwali(Suruchi Verma): The youngest daughter-in-law of the Pandey household, Sangita is known by the name of the village she comes from (Kalsan) and is referred to as Kalsanwali. She comes from a family of strong political connections and often threatens others using her parental influence. Brought up with people who take to arms and violence at the slightest resort, Kalsanwali too has adopted aggressive behavior. Her husband Vishnu is equally aggressive and believes in keeping her under control and showing her that he is the 'boss' around. However, Kalsanwali fights back tooth and nail and does not let her husband dominate over her. She often vents out her fury over her miserable married life on Runjhun and assaults her.

• Mahadevi: Daughter of Rajju and Mittho ,treats Runjhun no better than the rest of the family.Had had a previous crush on Guddu which led to meeting his friend (Jabbu).She is soon to marry a rich boy of her family's choice but she is hiding the fact she is pregnant with Jabbu's baby since he refuses to accept their child. Later she starts respecting Runjhun and marries Kukkan.

• Jabbu:Guddu's friend.Your typical Casanova.He starts dislikng Runjhun after she tries to break up him and Mahadevi(since she found out that he was only using Mahadevi.)He dislikes the fact of Guddu and Runjhun being together.

• Kukkan:Guddu's friend.Nice,simple boy.He's always been nice to Runjhun and really likes the idea of Runjhun and Guddu being together.(complete opposite of Jabbu). He marries Mahadevi so her reputation is not tarnished.
